Wireless system Jan 24, 2010 This is a great system. I especially enjoy the wireless transmission between three separate sound parts that can be set up in any ideal combination around the room. My only regret; not getting a blue-ray with the system. But that's no fault of the system or manufacturer!
Great Sound but still disappointed Jan 21, 2010 We purchased a 52" sony bravia television along with this home theater system. Everything for the most part worked great except the back speakers (part of the s-air components). What a nightmare. We never got them set up and from what I read over and over again neither has very many people....we almost took the whole system back because we really wanted the sound from the back of the room. We decided to keep the system however because it was too much trouble to disconnect everything...and the sound is excellent from the speakers that work.
Called sony and was on the phone 2 hours with them...what a BIG JOKE they are.....totally useless help...
unexpectedly limited funtionality Dec 28, 2009 Some very good reviews already written (see the top result!!), so I'll be brief and just comment on my major peevs (i.e., the unexpectedly limited functionality)
-- NO AUDIO OUTPUTS -- You want to hook up addtional household speakers (bathroom / outdoor) or even chain to another household amp? (Who wouldn't?) TOO BAD, IT'S NOT POSSIBLE. This is a huge flaw for me... I was so disappointed about this alone that I thought about returning or selling this system. In the end I decided not to, since it was a gift, and to get around it, I now have multiple, unconnected amps, running various parts of my home sound system = ASININE.
-- No DVD picture zoom / magnify. Even the little $30 DVD player in my bedroom has a picture "zoom" (magnify). Comes in so handy when there's something interesting in the background or tiny text - simple solution: pause + zoom, right? No. Even if you have a 50+ inch HDTV, sometimes you just want to be able to look closer!
-- The remote control is just awful (see top result review for details). Plan on getting a univeral remote if you don't already have one, so you can just put it away in storage.

So-So product, not worth it Nov 12, 2009 I purchased this system mainly because I wanted 5.1 sound for my gaming systems, and dvd/bd. The fact that the rear speakers were wireless and it comes with a separate little s-air unit was a bonus for me.
Let me talk about the good points first. The setup was pretty simple. The manual is not the best but adequate to get the job done. The wireless rear speakers are a great touch and I really like having the separate s-air unit as I can listen to the radio/music in a separate room.
Now comes the bad part, the sound. It's really weak and uneven. I daresay my TV's built in speakers were more consistent. When watching DVD's or Blu-Rays the dialogue is very hard to understand and I'm constantly raising/lowering the volume. With my games it's not as pronounced but still noticeable. The problem is that there really is no way to set the bass level, balance/fade or anything really. This unit lacks even one of those cookie cutter presets like "music," "movie," etc etc. I'm just thankful Sony was generous enough to allow adjusting the volume levels. As far as the wireless connectivity goes, my s-air unit works fine but the speakers started cutting in and out some time ago after working great for about 6 months. I haven't had much luck fixing the issue, and I really didn't change my home wirless setup in the interim so my best guess is that something from the apartments next door is messing with the signal. Last but not least the system's remote has one of the worst layouts I've seen in a while. Not much contrast in size/color, small fonts are a recipe for disaster.
I really want to like this unit. I love the convenience that comes with the S-Air unit and wireless speakers. But in the end it's all about the sound. While I wasn't expecting a state of the art sound system for a sub $400 price tag, I expect better than this. I really cannot recommend this system. The sound is just really not worth it.

Not Much Bump For Your Buck Oct 23, 2009 This system is ok at best. For the asking price you would be better off choosing a different product. The wireless system is not very reliable. This set up simply can not hit the low notes.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
