Sony TV Mar 08, 2010 This is a great product and simple to use. It comes ready to go and easy to setup. If you have a home theater system it wouldn't be bad to install also because the volume is not that loud. Overall, I am pleased with Sony and Amazon again.
Best TV I've Ever Purchased Feb 16, 2010 Ok, I'll make this short and sweet. At least I'll try to.
Here: find the positive reviews, and listen to them. Ignore the negative reviews.
Still want to hear more? Fine. I warned you.
I worked for Sony for a few years, and if it wasn't for their inflated pricing, everything in my house would have a Sony logo on it. Then this TV came along.
Here's a not-so-secret suggestion: Purchase a Sony TV around Super Bowl time- you'll combine retailer's Super Bowl sales with the timing of old models clearing out. Seriously, you want to pay $300-600 more to have a 2010 vs a 2009 TV? I want your paycheck.
I worried a bit about it only being 60 Hz for as large as it is, thinking the size would magnify any ghosting or lag. Negative- maybe if I was watching a SD signal over rabbit ears. Hooked this beauty up to an HD satellite signal, and have been watching the NBA All-Star stuff, and fast-paced Olympic events with ZERO lag or ghosting. Sweet.
A couple people commented on viewing angle? Puhleeze. It's awesome.
Ok, news flash: the sound isn't stellar...but it's not really better or worse than other LCD TVs I've owned. And who cares? I have everything hooked up to my receiver. I'm not about to own a 52" TV and not take advantage of the home theater experience.
I didn't think I'd like 2 of the HDMI connections on the side, but I'll admit it's a heck of a lot easier connecting everything when it's mounted on the wall. (Hint: use a Cheetah Mounts APTMM2B Tilt Wall Mount for 32"-55" Plasma and LCD TVs and Displays, it was a great deal).
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Sony among the least expensive in that size range. Ok, so I got a killer deal, but still! With as nice as this LCD is, it's hard to imagine it being the 'bottom' range of their lineup. It's a Sony TV. Enough said.
Great Price & Picture! Feb 11, 2010 Purchased this for $1050 Jan. 2010 and have no complaints. Great picture, good sound, all around easy set up. I was concerned about motion blur as this is not 120hz or more, but no one at our Superbowl party could see any motion issues. The price has dropped so much (was $1800 in June) it's a steal. No problems with viewing angles, and we had a packed rooms for superbowl. This 52" is in our FR and provides a good view from all seats. We have 2 96" sofas and a swivel chair all ranging from 9-11 feet away from the screen, placed in a U configuration. Check it out in-store if you are not certain, bet you'll buy one!
Sony does it again Feb 03, 2010 As with any TV you really do need a sound system to bring this set to life. I love the picture despite what I have read about dimming. I brought home a 52S4100 a few weeks ago and wasn't thrilled. This 5100 displayed scenes of Yosmite as if you were there. My 10 year old XBR 40" now seems unwatchable.

Did not like the picture quality - ended up taking it back Jan 23, 2010 I bought this TV based on the price and all the great reviews. I didn't think it looked that great in the store but I thought it was probably just their input signal.
I had this TV in my home for 3 weeks and finally ended up taking it back. I had read that LCD's no longer had viewing angle problems, but this one does. It looks good from directly in front of it, but from the sides it looses contrast badly. I wasn't impressed with the black levels either.
I ended up getting a plasma and am much happier. The picture looks the same from any viewing angle with a plasma.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
