Extremely poor Netflix performance Sep 05, 2010 I've given up on streaming Netflix with this unit. The Netflix performance is an exasperating letdown. I bought the unit because it worked with Netflix - DVD player for the latest movies, and Netflix for the TV shows. You can't however, get through a single episode on it without at least one stoppage for buffering. Many times, it will stop and buffer every 10 to 15 seconds. The performance is laughable, that is if I didn't pay good money to expect that. The Sony player is connected by hardwire into a FIOS router. Thinking it was the network, I checked our Verizon FIOS speed and found it was exceptional. I played the same shows on my wireless laptop and wireless home PC with no buffering problems whatsoever. Tonight, we got so disappointed trying to watch the season finale of Dexter that I asked my son to hook up his X-Box to the TV so we could stream through that. Again, the show played fine, with no stoppages whatsoever. We are running the current firmware, and to be honest, the latest firmware seems to perform worse that the earlier ones.
Stay away from this unit if you expect to stream Netflix at all. There are other options out there that you will find much less frustrating.
amazing product for the price Aug 29, 2010 I just recently got a hi-def TV and felt the need to get a blu-ray player that was netflix capable. I'll be honest, the primary reason I bought this thing is to stream netflix. I mean yes I could of bought a Roku, but I definitely wanted to be able to play blu-ray as well.
The setup for this thing is easy as pie. Usually Sony has tons of menus and it is complicated with other products. But this thing is incredibly simple. I had a Cat5 ethernet cable ran to the back of the thing, and with my 20mbit/sec cable internet connection, this thing upgraded to the newest firmware as soon as I plugged it in.
After that, I activated my sony product and followed the instructions for activating my netflix account. Piece of cake. In minutes I was watching items that were in my queue. The quality is superb. It takes a about 30 seconds or so to load up a movie, but once it is there, it is perfect. No staggering or skipping. Others that have complained about the netflix streaming probably have slow internet connections. Or maybe they're using WiFi and it is having problems. Regardless, I think this thing is freakin' awesome and I'm stoked about it's quality and price.
I've never even had anything hooked up via HDMI, so having video/audio go through the same cable is totally awesome. Couldn't believe how easy it was. I'd recommend this unit to anyone. THANKS!!
Sony BDP-n460 Blue ray Aug 29, 2010 I have owned this player a while but I have to say that I still really love it. The technology is excellent, both in sound and visual experience. The Sony is by FAR Superior then the previous player. Fast at everything boot-up is less then 10 seconds without the quick boot-up option, reads Blu ray shortly after inserted and load times are minimal. I had read several reviews about Netflix not being good quality and it being laggy and such which was turning me away from this player. The quality of rentals is great, it doesn't take very long to load at all I have 6MBps from Comcast running through a router and a switch and still have no problem streaming or any quality loss. If you have the ability to rent bluereay then this player is truly wonderful. From Box to setup it took under 60 mins, It tells you when there is new software and DL it directly to the player and installs it in under 4 mins. For Netflix all you need to do is register product with Sony and then enter the Key it gives you into the Netflix site and your done. If your looking for a new Blu Ray or even a First time buyer, DO NOT pass this one up. This player is amazing, I first had a samsung from walmart that was on sale for cheap money which was slow to boot and slow to read.
Perfect for our needs Aug 29, 2010 For the past 20 years I've been trying to avoid Sony products because of how they've tried to get you to buy all the Sony accessories that only work with their product (Hello Apple). But the reviews were too good on this one to ignore and it's been perfect for what we've wanted to do. We have an older 27" tv so it wasn't the Blu-Ray feature that was the priority. We also have 1.5MBps download capability. Streaming has been great. We love how easy it is to access the menues, even the kids have figured it out. And then there is the stuff that's been added since we bought it last January. At first NPR and Slacker were the only audio choices but recently they've added Pandora. And this week we see a notification that Hulu Plus will be available soon. Not sure that we'll add that but as avid Hulu users, it's nice to have that option. Well done, Sony. Well done.
Excellent Blu Ray with Wireless Aug 24, 2010 Absolutely great! Easy to set up the wireless connection to my home network. Easy to set up the netflix account access. Fantastic Picture. One day I might even watch a Blu Ray on it.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
